“So, who wants to have sex?” I said to our alpaca girls as I walked in to their pen with MacTavish on a lead.

“Me, me, me, pick me!” cried Willow with her tail in the air, a sure sign that she was ready…little hussy.

This was going to be Mac’s first time.  He is almost three years old and it was time for him to start making babies!

Mac is a very handsome white boy with soft, shiny fleece and great genetics so we have high hopes for his offspring, which will take 11 or so months to gestate…breeding alpacas is not for those in a hurry to see results.
Here he is, trying to get the lay of the land, no pun intended.  At least he is starting at the right end.
Whispering sweet nothings in to Willow’s ear.
Now we were getting down to business and that is where Mac began to have problems.
Trying to find the right “spot”, yes, I am trying to be delicate here, turned out to be a challenge….he was all over the place!
Also maintaining balance was an issue. I won’t tell you how many times he fell off and had to start all over again.

OK, this is the correct end, right?

As Mac seemed to be somewhat challenged, our 1 month old boy, Patrick Henry, having watched Mac and Willow for a while, decided to give it a try and show them how things were done.
Patrick Henry was not picky about his target….he mounted Philadelphia, who is also a male, and started humping and orgling.
Libby also decided to get in to the act and provide input to the two boys.

UNBELIEVABLE

And then finally, at the end of Mac’s first day of mating,  Willow decided that maybe she should keep her options open and see what Tango and Cash (on his hind legs looking on) had to offer.
Days two and three saw Mac figuring out what to do and gaining more confidence, but it still remains to be seen if he was successful.
This next week we will see if Willow “spits him off”,  a good sign that she knows that she is pregnant.
Until next time, Happy Trails
