Here she is, our first cria of the year, out of mom Muse and Stargazer’s Antares.
I went down to the barn this morning to water the animals, and all the alpacas were standing in a circle and looking down…never a good sign.
There was Muse, on the ground in the mud and muck with a head and a leg hanging out of her lady parts.

Unfortunately the cria’s other leg was still in Muse and bent back so that I could not get the foot out. Thank goodness for awesome neighbors! I called my friend Lori who lives down the road and she rushed right over. She is a cattle person and knew exactly what to do. She pushed the head back in a bit, got the leg re-positioned and pulled the little girl right out. She was all full of piss and vinegar (the cria, not Lori) and ready to get on her feet.
So one cria born and 5 more to go!!
Until next time, Happy Trails!
yay you've seen my comment. Greetings, I hope Muse and her daughter is doing well 🙂
Hi Dirk…I can't believe I missed your comment!!! Cindy and John told me about you and naming Muse when we bought her at Stargazer. I just love her name and what a great story as to how she was named. Muse had her first cria, Providence, a year ago in May and she is a beautiful dark fawn girl with beautiful brown eyes.
Thanks for commenting, and I will do better responding next time 🙂
I found "my" Muse!
I saw then the birth of Muse at stargazer ranch over the cam and suggested the name Muse (after the band Muse).
She is a beautiful girl <3
