New Knitted Shawl Pattern Ride the Whirlwind

Oct 12, 2018 | Knitting | 5 comments

I love designing shawls, because to me, they are relatively simple, at least they are when compared to a garment where you have to size everything…I do not have the patience or the time to put in the work.

But with Shawls, I can flip through my pattern books looking for something that interests me, and then start swatching in my yarn of choice, usually my own Hand Dyed Yarns

Don’t get me wrong, there is still a lot of work that goes in to designing; charting, writing out the pattern, photographing the finished piece, and sending it off to a tech editor who sharpens up her red pencil to correct and modify the pattern where needed.  And finally the fun part, I get to rollout my latest creation here on my blog, as well as on Ravelry and my Etsy Shop.

Ride the Whirlwind, my latest design, is an asymmetrical crescent shaped shawl, which is worked in two colors, and uses several different stitch patterns to provide texture and visual interest.

The crescent shaping creates the illusion of a swirling effect, reminiscent of a whirlwind.

The different stitch/color block sections, which include garter, stockinette, drop, and slip stitch, are easy to work and keep the knitting interesting.

The Nitty Gritty Pattern Details

The shawl is worked flat, back and forth, and begins with 4 stitches. The shape is achieved by increasing two stitches at the start of every right side row, decreasing one stitch at the end of the row, & increasing one stitch at the end of every wrong side row. The shawl ends by binding off with a stretchy bindoff.

This pattern has been professionally tech edited and test knit by a group of amazing Ravelry knitters!! Be sure to check out my Ravelry Page to see all of their finished shawls along with their amazing color choices!
