The cold weather is upon us, knitting season is in full swing, and I have a pattern for you that is sure to make the cold more than bearable.
The Night and Day Cowl is a mosaic slip stitch pattern which is worked in the round and is long enough to be wrapped around your neck twice, keeping you nice and warm throughout the cold winter months.
I designed the pattern using our Sinfully Soft and Sumptuous Rolling E Ranch Alpaca Yarns in undyed Natural White and undyed Dark Fawn.
Alpaca Yarn is incredibly soft against the skin as well as lightweight and warm with an added bonus of being hypoallergenic, so if you can’t wear wool, then alpaca might just be the fiber for you!
The cowl can be worn hanging down like a scarf…I sometimes like to hold it closed with a shawl pin or some other type of fancy pin. Or it can be wrapped twice around your neck.
If you have not yet tried knitting in the round because you think it might be complicated, which it isn’t, then this would be a good pattern to start with…there is no need to fiddle around with double pointed needles or difficult patterns and it is a great skill confidence builder.
The two color, intricate looking patterns are made with the Mosaic Knitting technique. It is an incredibly simple way to make colorwork patterns as you only work one color per round and the added bonus is there is no purling involved.
In addition to the Mosaic color work, texture is brought in to play with both the garter stitch edging, as well as the single color slip stitch pattern around the center of the cowl.
The Knitty Gritty Pattern Details
The cowl is worked in the round beginning and ending with a Garter Stitch Edging. In between are several different Mosaic patterns along with a textural slip stitch pattern.
This pattern has been professionally tech edited.
